New Student Orientation is an exciting day packed with activities to prepare you for success at UMKC. You'll make connections with other students, learn about campus resources and services, navigate campus and explore student organizations.

Who Attends Orientation?

Incoming undergraduate students

  • Attendance is required for incoming first-time college students and transfer students with 24 or fewer credit hours entering in the Fall or Summer Semesters, and strongly recommended for those entering in Spring.
  • We encourage transfer students with more than 24 credit hours to meet with their academic advisor, then attend New Student Orientation.

Parents, families and other guests

  • Up to two parents, family members, guardians or other close relations are encouraged to attend Support Your Roo: Parent and Family Orientation. Cost per guest is $25.

International students

  • All new degree-seeking international students are required to attend International Student Orientation, typically held on the Thursday prior to the start of classes each Fall and Spring, in their first semester.

Online students

  • Online students are not required to attend an Orientation session.
